Description
The SEEP BDSWG and the HIV/AIDS and Microfinance Development (HAMED) working group created an on-line forum that would allow practitioners to share their experiences in working with HIV/AIDS-affected communities and facilitate the dissemination of lessons learned.

The virtual information gathering session asked: "What was working? What wasn¿t working? and Why?" to learn how practitioners responded to the HIV/AIDS pandemic when designing and implementing their programs.

Discussion Objectives were to:
1. Determine factors leading to successful BDS interventions targeting HIV/AIDS-affected individuals;
2. Identify strategies and interventions that enhance the participation of HIV/AIDS-affected individuals in productive markets (subsectors, industries and value chains); and
3. Define mechanisms that can help HIV/AIDS-affected individuals within value chains increase their earnings.

Methods for info gathering
Throughout the two-week (April 19-30, 2004), moderated email discussion, daily questions were used to guide the discussion and summaries of all contributions were posted.

Summary of results
The paper draws lessons learned from current experience in the field. The paper systematically presents those lessons that best inform the improved development and delivery of BDS program to HIV/AIDS-affected households.
